Dr Malanka Lankaputhra is a general and academic cardiologist with broad clinical interests spanning coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure, arrhythmia and cardiovascular risk assessment. He is undertaking further subspecialty training in interventional cardiology, with emerging expertise in coronary and structural heart procedures.

After graduating from the University of Tasmania in 2016 Dr Lankaputhra completed basic physician training at The Alfred and advanced cardiology training primarily at The Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is currently undertaking a PhD through Monash University based at The Alfred, funded by the prestigious NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship. His research focuses on identifying opportunities to optimise care for cardiovascular emergencies in the pre hospital window and translating these insights into new models of care designed to improve outcomes across the patient journey.

Dr Lankaputhra takes a balanced people-first approach to life and medicine. He prioritises clear communication, shared decision-making and continuity of care which helps him build strong relationships with patients and delivers comprehensive patient-centred care.

An enthusiastic teacher and mentor, he is actively involved in educating junior doctors and trainees.Outside of medicine he enjoys playing tennis and is a devoted Western Bulldogs supporter.

Malanka will be consulting from Wangaratta Cardiology and Respiratory Centre located at 29 ClarkStreet, Wangaratta 3677. He will commence consulting once a month and progress to more regular clinics as required.
